MISGOVERNMENT.
Sir, —When one realises the self-sacri-fices parents are making in fond hopes that will never eventuate, one cannot suppress a pang of sympathy for these people, for the majority of these parents' dreajns must he crushed by the bitter realisation that tho future of the majority of New Zealand's horn is already blasted by selfish sections of all trades, who by law are appointed to regulate the entrance of all prospective competitors. Years ago there was no law to do this, and comfort was within tho reach of all, but to-day, practical ability counts for nothing, and it qosts hundreds or thousands of pounds per child just to provide a useless theoretical education before a child is allowed by law to learn a practical trade. Conscription, matriculation, trade examination based on theory and not practical need, ruinous transport regulations, are each doing their poisonous work to kill progress and foist Bolshevism on to the people. Samoan misgovernment and conscription will in themselves put Labour in power, but what of the weakness of this party? What remedy has the country against a continuance of class privileges 1 It seems New Zealand is faced with darker days ahead, when already we have idleness, want, starvation and suicides in our midst, all because the country's political heads have abandoned democratic principles and the public is too lazy to register their active interest in the country's misgovernment. Harold Schmidt. 268, Queen Street, Auckland.
