CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION.

AWARD MADE BY COURT,

Injuries received in the courso of employment by a hoy aged 16 resulted in a claim for compensation made by his father in the Arbitration Court yesterday before Mr. Justice Frazer. The plaintiff was Alexander Miller Howison (Mr. Sullivan) on behalf of his son, Andrew Ilowison, who claimed from 11. L. White, Ltd., motor dealors (Mr. Hubble), in respect of an accident which occurred to the boy on March 1, 1929. The boy was struck by' a. motor-lorry in Karangahapo Road and-suffered a. fracture of the right thigh bone, a fracture of the pelvis and internal injuries. It was claimed that ho was still disabled from earning wages and suffered permanent partial incapacity. Medical evidence was called for the plaintiff to show that the injuries would cause the hoy to undergo a. slight, operation every three months for the remainder of his life. Estimates of his disability ranged from 20 per cent, to 30 per cent, of total permanent disability. In evidence for the defendant, two doctors estimated the boy's injuries at from 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, of total permanent disability. Iho Court awarded compensation amounting to 10s a week for six months following the date of injury and 9s 4d a week for the remainder of the period of liability.
