TRANSPORT BY RAIL

IMPROVED FACILITIES

The management, committee of (he Auckland Provincial Fruitgrowers' Council met yesterday, the president, Mr. S. W. House, presiding.

Reports were submitted regarding the carriage of fruit by rail, and it was stated that, the Railway Department was desirous of assisting in every way to have the fruit conveyed by rail. The secretary, .Mr. G. A. Green, said the department, had been asked to provide improved facilities for the. transport of fruit, and it was Hoped that refrigerating vans would bo included in various trains.

It was reported that the date of the forthcoming Auckland Agricultural and pastoral Show would be unsuitable for the display of fruit, as it was too early for late fruit and too late for soft fruit. A committee vsas appointed to meet the show committee and explain the point and also to request that fruitgrowers should be consulted with reference to the dates of forthcoming shows.

ft was stated that research was still being conducted by the Cawthron Institute into tile bronze beetle, and it was hoped that successful results would be achieved whereby the beetle could bo effectively dealt with.

A resolution was passed supporting the Urban Rating Bill. It was stated that the bill was being redrafted for introduction during the coming session.
