.WEEK-END WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to as by Mr. H. M. Ylncent last evening:— An extensive depression covers most of the Tasman Sea and New Zealand, tropical influences having combined with a westerly low barometric pressure area. Indications point to unsettled weather generally, with a scattered rainfaiL Variable winds and mainly moderate westerly to south-wesc-erlies, moderate to strong, prevailing, veering to east and north-east, then freshening in northern districts. A temporary improvement should follow, but there are indications for the development of another heavy rainstorm, most of the North Island being affected. Seas chiefly moderate, although rough in patches, both the east and west coast being influenced, with an increasing tendency northward of East Cape. Local outlook: Unsettled, with intermittent rain, then improving temporarily, followed by heavy, continuous rain. Thunder probable. Cool temperatures, becoming warmer. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A belt of low pressure extends from New Zealand across the Taman Sea fco central Australia. Indications are for light to moderate westerly to south-westerly winds at first, veering later to northerly. Seas generally smooth to moderate. Variable winds west to north prevailing with smooth to moderate seas in the eastern Tasman. Weather still clondv and misty with scattered, bat mainly light, rain, scon improving temporarily.
