A combined mooting of representatives of tho Whangarei Borough Council, tho Whangarei County Council, tho Whangarei Harbour Board and tho Whangarei Chamber of Commerce was held lo discuss (lie question of tho preservation of the nativo bush between Bream head and Whangarei ITjirbour. Tho Government intimated that it would hand over Grown land for the purpose, but insisted that tho local authorities contribute on a £ for £ basis for the acquisition of tho private land concerned. Tho object is to have a continuous bush clad reserve from Bream Head northwards and unless tho private land is acquired thero will bo a serious gap.
Mr. J. A. Finhiyson, chairman of tho Harbour Board was appointed chairman of tlm joint committee and Mr. William M. Frasor secretary. Tho mooting dotided to ask tho Minister of Lands to include in his early itinerary of tho north an inspection of tho area concerned. It is hoped to persuade the Minister to recommend tho Government, to bear" tho whole cost of tho purchase of private land.
