WEEKLY WESTFI ELD SALE.

LATE RATES MAINTAINED,

READY SALE FOR SHEEP. Late rat.es were maintained at the weekly Westfiold fat stock sale yesterday. Beef was penned in large numbers, with cow arid heifer beef predominating. There was practically no alteration in the values and a steady demand existed throughout the sale. Sheep, which were penned in average numbers, met with e. ready sale at late rates, and lambs also had a good market. Calves came forward in ample numbers and although bidding was steady values were a shade easier.

Competition was keenest for pigs and tho yarding was above the average. All classes sold well and tho recent increases in values were fully maintained. Store pigs were not so plentiful and prices were a little firmer.

SEARCH FOR OIL IN PAPUA

GOVERNMENT GIVES UP. CANBERRA, Feb. 5. The Federal Government has decided to discontinue prospecting for oil in Papua, owing to financial difficulties.
