HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT.

HUNTLY-OHINEWAI STRETCH DELAY IN STARTING WORK. [by tvxegrapk —ow:: correspondent.] HAMILTON, Wednesday. Arrangements had been made by the Waikato County Council to reform the three-mile stretch of the Main South Road between Ohinewai and Huntly preparatory to resurfacing it with bitumen when a hitch occurred.

The council and the Main Highways Board had agreed on tho terms of payment, and the board had approved of the plans and tho estimated cost, about £12,000. The council had assembled its staff and plant in readiness .to carry out tho work by day labour. The board, however, has intervened with an insistence that tenders must be called and the work done by contract. The council was anxious to have the excavation done before the wet weather sets in. but delay in proceeding with the project must now take place.
