Pasanelli has been transported to New Plymouth with a view to fulfilling engagements at the Taranaki Jockey Club's meeting, and a win for the 6on of Lord Quex would furnish pleasant reading, for ho lias raced unluckily this season. In the early spring ho was set to win honours in New South Wales, and though he went very close on two occasions to recording victories the fates -were against him. At the Warwick Farm meeting he ran the winner. Killarney, to a neck for first honours in the Campbelltown Handicap, conceding his rival 131b., and in the decision of the Canterbury Stakes at Cante/bury Park a week later ho wns defeated ty i short head by the speedy Amounio, who he met at even weights. Retransported to New Zealand Paganelli managed to win the Shorts Handicap at Trectha.m, but at Riccarton in the following month be was beaten a neck by Whito Fang, to whom he was called on to concede 251b. In the de- . cision of. the Feilding Stakes he ran third . to Cimabuo and Kaihoro, and in the Palmerßton North Stakes, in which he carried 9.6. ho was defeated, half a length by Princess Betty (6.9), Paganelli's initial engagement, /it the Taranaki meeting is in the Flying furlongs), in which ho is called upon, to .carry 9.12. 0:a Saturday Paganelli is engaged in tho Taranaki Stakes; and at present is unpenalised for that event.' MISCELLANEOUS NOTES. BAVJLAND THE SURPRISE. Havihnd, who brought off a surprise victory in the Rangitoto Handicap -at the Takapuna meeting last Saturday. 13 a four-year-old gelding by Quin Abbey, from Midget, 'and the St. Simon strain, stands cut prominently. Quin Abbey is by Morganatic (sbil of St. Simon), while Midget _ is by Elysian (bod of Soult and grandson • of St. Stuion). A PROMISING FILLY. Tlie three-year-old Honifon, winner of two races run over seven furlongs nt the Takapuna meeting: iu good style, is » well-bred filly, and there is encouragement to place h. tick opposite her name for eventß ahead. Honiton .3 by Marble Arch (son of lßinglasp) from Lacemaker, a daughter •of Advance and Avaijnce, who traces to the Saunterer mare Steppe, dam of Slepniak). THE PUTAKUKU STAKES. The Matamata Racing Club was found courageous enough lo institute q. wcight-for-,'»go race at its one-day annual race meetins which'bears tho title of tho I'utarum Stakes. Tho race in question is confined to two and three-year-olds that have not won ■ flat race at a totalisator meeting at the time of starting, and with the fine acceptance of twenty the club is assured of a good field for next Saturday's race. SALE-RING BARGAINS. There were some great bargains at tho dispersal sale of the Kinloch Stud in Canterbury in tho summer of ID'2B, and the imported mare Mazabuka was included in tho list. Mazabuka, with a colt foal at foot by Dincquenod fell to tho bid of Mr. John Glceson, owner of the Westmerc Stud, at lOOgna. ' VETERAN AMOUNIS. ; Amcunis, who is found displaying marked brilliancy at seven years old, and who has , won somo great races in first-class com- j pany this season, it is interesting to relate was only called upon to contest two events ( at the juvenile stage of his career, and j it was not until July that he was ( culled upon to race. To that circumstance ( Jiisy no doubt be largely attributed the nunncr in which Aniounis is standing up i to his racing at this period. '

' DISAPPOINTING GOBLIN MARKET. Goblin Market (by Absurd—Cherry Mori) failed to win a race at three years old last season, but' in two races which lie contested (it that age be displayed sufficient dush to warrant tho conclusion he would win an important race. In tho decision of the Jockey Club Handicap (1 mile) at Ricnrton in tho spring of 1928 he carried 7.0 and ran Crown Area (8.5) to a head, and on the saiiij course in tho summer when contesting tho Middle Purk Plate (0 furlongs) he carried 0.0 and was beaten a neck by Pink Coat (8-2) in a fast run race. 8o far this season Goblin Market has proved a complete disappointment and it is reported that he was sold recently for 323gns.
