BURGLARY ALLEGED.

THREE MEN AT NEW LYNN.

PURSUIT BY CONSTABLE.

REMAND MADE FOR WEEK. Arrested at New Lynn after a chase by Constable R. Boag at an early hour in the morning, three young men were charged in tho Police Court yesterday with breaking and entering the premises of John Harold Savage in Totara Avenue, New Lynn, with intent to commit a crime. The accused were Archie Robert Windsor, aged 23, labourer, Henry James Boyd, aged 24, labourer, and Anthony Howley, aged 20, bootmaker. A further chargo of wilfully damaging a panel of the glass door of tho premises to the extent of 5s was also preferred against them.

When the cases were called, SeniorSergeanjt O'Grady asked for a remand until next Monday.

" Are thoy on bail ? " asked the magis trate, Mr. F. K. Hunt.

" Howley is at present on probation," remarked Chief-Detective Hammond after the senior-sergeant had stated that none of the accused had been bailed.

The Magistrate: "What about tho others ? "

Mr. Hammond: They are all " bad oggs," and have been here before. The accused wore then remanded for a week.

Tho alarm was given by Mrs. Savage, who, thinking that she heard tho sound of breaking glass, got into communication with Constable Boag, who went to the shop by motor-car. Here the men were seen and a pursuit followed, tho constable succeeding in arresting all three. They were then brought into Auckland by three detectives who went out to New Lynn from the city station. Three other premises in New Lynn, those of Mr. E. F. S. George, land agent, Mr. R. Whittaker, grocer, and Mr. J. W. Parry, were also visited by intruders on the same evening, the front doors of tho three places showing signs of attempts to force them open. In no case was anything secured, although somo damage was done.
