BUSES TO AVONDALE.
OVERCROWDING COMPLAINTS PROTEST BY RESIDENTS. A complaint that Avondalo residents were being crowded out of their buses by residents of Point Chevalier was made to the Transport Board by a deputation of ratepayers and residents of Waterview, Avondale, yesterday. At peak hours, it was stated, Avondale residents found difficulty in obtaining room in Avondale buses owing to Point Chevalier people availing themselves of the same means of transport.
The board promised to give early consideration t,o the representations. The deputation also asked what transport would be provided to Water view when the tram extension to Point Chevalier was completed. In reply the chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, said it was anticipated that the trams would be running to Point Chevalier hall about the middle of next month, but that fact would not deprive Waterview residents of an adequate service. It wouid necessitate a revision of bus fares beyond the hall corner and the deputation could rest assured that it would receive benefit thereby.
Replying to the spokesman of the deputation, Mr. F. Craig, who pointed out the inconvenience caused to Sunday picknickers through having to change from tram to bus and vice versa at Pitt Street, Mr. Allum said it was only for financial reasons that buses made their city terminus at Pitt Street on Sundays.
