THE SOYA BEAN.
VARIETY OF USES. At Seattle immense qunritities of soya beans are_used in f|,e manufacture of glue. It is almost a brand now industry, yet one company is usinir 600.000 bushels of beans this year. This is more commercial soya beans limn are produced by nny State except Illinois. At Peoria the American Milling Company, irod more than 1.000,000 bushels of soya beans dnr- i Sng the past twelve months, first extracting the oil and then using the ground meal as one of the principal sources of protein in dairy feed. At Chicago and elsewhere paint companies are using soya bean oil in. the manufacture of" their product. This started when linseed oil became scarce and the price high, but now the paint makers find that for certain purposes the replacement of part of the linseed oil by sova bean oil improves the quality of their product. At Cincinnati, soap makers are using soya bean oil for making certain fine soaps and shampoos. Tt is not. ;is cheap as coconut oil or cotton seed oil, but for nomo kinds of soap it must be used or the quality cannot be maintained at tho desired standard.. At Battle Creek, a cereal manufacturer is_ turning out flour from soya beans for making biscuits and bread for those from diabetes. Soya beans contain little sugar, and nre very nourishing, hence their u:-e for this purposo is ideal.
