DOMESTIC SERVANTS.
Sir,—Would you kindly allo%v me space for this letter on behalf of domestic servants 1 There are many girls like myself, yourig and honest, who work from nine to eleven hours daily, with the exception of one half-day weekly (usually from 2 p.m.), arid every other Sunday (usually from 3 p.m.). Could not people who have girls living in be made to register at the Labour Department or some suitable place? Also, could not some rule be made that a girl could have, say, one Sunday in four off at an early enough hour to enable her to go for a whole day in the open? Very few girls get such a Sunday. It is time something was done on behalf of domestic servants. Hotel employees work good hours, get good time off and good wages, but not so with the girl who cooks, sweeps and tends to baby. Domestic.
