REVIEW OF THE FIELDS.

BY • ARCHER.

Runners will bo very numerous in the Waitoa Handicap, and: the race is decidedly open. On figures Some Dillon, who won recently in 3.35 2-5, should possess an excellent ohance of! the limit of this '3.38 class. His . most dangerous opponents may • be Kewpie's Guy, Gold Treasure and Mountain Princess, although Black Ballin, Go,za, Margaret Wallace, Zealous and Jasper have all shaped well enotigh on occasions to be worth some consideration. Luck in the draw for barrier positions and in the early running may be an important factor, as there are ao many horses on the limit that they will probably have to be started in two rows.- Some Dillon, Kewpie's Guy and Black Ballin may be in demand. The class engaged in the Elstow-Handicap is not strong, and solid trotters like Paradigm and Togo's Promise should tnke considerable beating, despite the fact that they aro conceding starts to most of the others. Roto, Black Magic and Te Ngutu ore limit horses that have shown some form, while Wiriwhata and Carl Mack are young horse 3 with possibilities, Don Zolock is nicely placed, and only, for the fact that he is not too reliablo ' would be greatly fancied. Baokers: will prqbably follow form and give most support to Paradigm, Don Zolock and Togo's Promise.

A useful field of nine is carded to, contest the Manawarii : Handicap. Dealer should possess a good chance 'in'' this class if he is well, while the trotters Peterson and Anselino should bo solid enough to register, respedtable efforts. Benefice and Kingsclero are possibilities, although they would appeal more at a shorter distance. Tho backmarkers Dad's Hope, Greaft Ballin, Haerenga Pai and Andover' are all likely to go docent races, and possibly 'the best of these may be Haerenga Pai and Andcver. It should be a good betting race with Dealer, Andover and Haorenga Pai. well fancied.

Fifteen useful class pacers figure on the card for tho Te Aroha Trotting Cup, aind it promises to be a very interesting race. Peter Pirate won well at his ilast start and should be very troublesome off the, limit, while Cornelian, Explosion, Warspite and Tony Victor are all nicely Hal Chimes and Brutus are also possibilities, and the best of the others may be Mountain Dell and The Abbey. The wagering is likely to be spirited and fancies will take a fairly wide range. Some who may be in domand are Peter Pirate, Corneliian and Explosion. Most of the candidatos for tho .liuakaka Handicap will'probably race earlier in the day in the Waitoa Handicap,'and therefore the form in the first race may give ai guide to the prospects in this mile and' t.-quarter event, which bears a vpry open aßpciat. Unloss form in the Waitoa Handicap brings a runner into prominence the prime fanoies may be Some Dillon, Gaza and Kewpie's Guy. ' » ' * 1 ■ ' 1 Nearly all the horses engaged in the Hot Springs . Handicap aro engaged earlier in the day, and here again previous form Say give a line on the prospects. Recent rm points to Mountain Princess, Dealer and Haerenga Pai pacing well in this 8.86 mile and a-hfelf and they may be among the prime fancies. The Waihou Handicap has attracted ft fair field and should bo an interesting race. Togo's Promißc ( ,on 12yds, and Paradigm, on 21yds, should account for the horses on the limit, arid they may give moßfc trouble to the backmarkers, the best of whom may bo Akenehi and Peterson Baokers will probably be guided by recent form and give most .support to Akenehi, Paradigm and Togo's Promise.

There are seventeen 'aoceptorß ,fdr the Farewell Handicap, a mile saddle evefct, and it should be one of the best betting races of the day, aa there are many with chances. Gold Cast may be as reliable as any of those on the limit and should Ko well, while Andovcr and Kingaclore, both on 12yds, are another likely pair. Rolfe Audubon is also a possibility, while Our Nancy, Warspite, Benefice and Vanity Boy all have form that entitles them to respect. Benefice, Vanity Boy and Warspito may be solidly supported. , ,
