QUEEN AND SAUCEPAN.
I doubt if tho Qutcn has ever boiled a cabbngo or a potato, for in her childhood littlo girls of high station wore not allowed to dnbblo in practical domesticity as thev do in these days of camping and Girl Guides, and hei father, who thought it inappropriate for even a very small princess to bo out of doors without gloves, is not likely to havo encouraged her to do plain cook ng, says an English writer. Recently, however, when sho was inspecting the kitchen at tho new Polytechnic building, the Queen was ablo to appreciate tho virtues of an improved saucepan with an attached drainer. Her Majesty lias' evidently been at pains to escapo from tho lim tations of ono of Queen Victoria's grandsons, who, as a schoolboy, heard a famous comedian and, complimenting him afterwards, said: "I liked that joko about tho gridiron best. I've seen a gridiron."
