RUGBY BLAZERS.
AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIVES PRESENTATION TO PLAYERS. . ' •- . i The majority of the 21 playera who represented Auckland at Rugby last season were presented with blazers last evening on behalf of the Auckland Union. Those who were unavoidably absent owing to holiday leave will have their blazers forwarded to them. Among those present were Messrs. J. Arneil, president of the Auckland Rugby Union, T. Aitken, vicepresident, H. Frost (chairman) and members of the management committee. An apology was received from the sole selector to the Auckland Union, Mr. V. R. Meredith.
Mr. Arneil, who made the presentations, referred to the function as being' unique in that.it was the first occasion on which blazers had been presented to representative players. Ho asked , the recipients to bear in mind that although there was nothing of great value in the blazer, it would become a treasured possession in later years. It was 51 years since ha first gained his Auckland Rugby cap, but he now highly appreciated the honour.
Mr. Aitken referred to his association with Mr. Arneil. When boys at school 56 years ago they played football on what is now Albert Park.
Mr. Frost urged the players to help the younger boys by giving them advice on the game. Ho congratulated Mr. P. C. Minns on his selection as Rhodes Scholar,
Mr. F. W. Lucas, captain of the Auckland team, in returning thanks on behalf of the players, said they knew what the blazers meant in- tradition. The Union could rest assured that the blazers would be worn only on special occasions.
