CROQUET CONTEST.
AUSTRALIA V. DOMINION. PLAY IN FIRST MATCH. (Received January 17. 12.35 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 16. The first of three croquet matches for the Macßobertson Shield, between Australia and New Zealand, is now being played. An outstanding feature was that three triple perls were scored by Australia, which has never been done before in a test match. The results wqre:— Windsor and McCleary (Australia) beat A. Ross and Mrs. Smith (New Zealand), 26 —1, 26 —10; Miller beat Mrs. Cole (New Zealand), 26—0, 26—0; Winterow beat H. Stratton (New Zealand), 26—19, 26—3; H. Stratton and Mrs. Watkins (Now Zealand) beat Miller and Mrs. Miller (Australia), 12—26, 26—12, 26—25; Crabb and Winterow beat Archdeacon Creed Meredith and Mrs. Cole (New Zealand), 26—15, 26—14.
