THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

QUIET TRADING CONTINUES.

A larger number of sales was recorded on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Price movements were irregular. Sellers ' predominated in the gilt-edged section-.? and in Government securities Offers for two issues of War Loan and again for Inscribed Stock fell ss. . banks further ground was lost by Commercials of Australia, which had sale 2d easier at 24s 9d. More "were, sought at. 6d. Unions of Australia sold at £l2, equal to southern, levels, after which buyers dropped 4s to £ll 16s, sellers £l2 'ss. New Zealands were also 'sought a shade easier at 57s 3d. In insurance New Zealands and South British were the only shares in demand. The former •were inquired for at late rates. Offers for South British appreciated 6d to 60s 6d. The demand in both the loan and agency and 'coal sections was weak. In gas" offers for Aucklands moved up 2d to 24s lid and the contributing issue was in. request' 4d dearer afc 18s 4d. Sellers remained steady at 25s and 18s 8d respectively, Buyers offered for practically all the leading timber company shares and Kauris changed hands at the current price, 16s. An unsatisfied demand also existed in breweries. New Zealands were done again at 88s, and Staples were wanted 3d better at 55s 6d. Buyers of both issues of Innes were in the market at 21s. ' *

,i.'. The miscellaneous section displayed little buying strength. Colonial Sugars, which were quoted all day at £44 15s, attracted a bid of £43 15s at the final call. Taranaki Oils % sold 3d easier at 5s lOd, and more at the same figure remained untaken.. Wilsons Cements claimed improved support and were dono 3d dearer at 40s 9d, more being sought at 40s 6d. 'A late sale on Wednesday of Gear Meats at 41s 6d was also recorded. This is the first sale of _ this scrip in Auckland since the beginning of November and represents a decline of 3s 6d. Buyers did not offer yesterday. "In mining recent advances in Moanataiaris were confirmed with sales of the contributing issues at the higher levels. The 2s 4d paid issue was done 2d better at 6d, which was followed by a sale of tho shares paid up to Is 6d at the same figure without requirements being satisfied.. Offers for Ohinemuris recovered 2d to 3s lOd. Mount Lyells were weaker and after a transaction at 37s 6d, buyers dropped 9d to 36s 9d and sellers Is 4d to 37s sd.'
