SERIES OF THEFTS.
RIFLES AND FOOD STOLEN. SEARCH FOR TWO YOUTHS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—ritKSS ASSOCIATION.] CARTERTON, Thursday. Recent happenings in the Pirinoa district, have caused quite a stir. Two bicycles which had been left outsicfe a local picture theatre were taken away on Friday evening. When Mr. S. Antony, who resides ori McLean's Matawhoro property, returned homo on Sunday he found that his house had been broken into and it rifle, cartridges and a supply of canned foods had been taken. On making investigations Mr. Antony found tracks leading some distance up river. On Saturday night another local resident, Mr. Piripi, of Kohunui, found that a rifle and axe had been removed from his premises. Late on Sunday night two rifles shots were fired over another dwelling in the vicinity, and considerably startled the occupants. Iwo youths were seen at mid-day on Monday by several children, and a largo number of residents, under the direction of Constable Sle'eth, of Martinborough, is scouring tho district with the object of apprehending the culprits.
