SWIMMING CHAMPIONS.
NEW SOUTH WALES LADIES. The result of tho first of the New South Wales ladies' swimming championships is of interest to enthusiasts here in view of tho pending visit to the Dominion of Misses Edna. Da»vey and Jean Cocks. Recently these two girls met in tho 440 yds. championship and it was expected that Miss Cocks, because of her splendid times last year, would easily account for the Olympic representative, but the tables were turned. Miss Davey led practically all the way and won as she liked by 20 yards in 6m 8 3-ss. Miss Cocks was credited with some fast times in the early part of this season, but her form at the moment is indifferent, whereas Miss Davey has been very consistent. However, Australian critics believe tho younger girl has not lost all her dash. She is just at that age when too much strenuous swimming may moan the qnd of hor meteoric careor, just as has happened to numerous other girls who have been asked to do too much in their early teens. Providing Miss Cocks can stand up to preparation this summer she should avenge her ■ defett. Her- times are far bet-toe than any cither Miss Davey or Miss K, Miller, the New Zealand champion, have returned, and it is r}uit<v on the cards those two will realise it in the Dominion.
