In tlio Sheffield Shield cricket match, Victoria v. South Australia tho hitter's fust innings closed for 244. Victoria had made 297 for seven wickets when stumps were drawn yesterday. To-day Victoria completed their first innings for 331 and South Australia, in t heir second venture, made 235 for four wickets (Hone, not out, 104). At Sydney tho Sheffield Shield match, Queensland v. New South Wales, was commenced. New South Wales batted first and scored 235 and Queensland, in their first innings, made 126 for six wickets.

TOUR OF DR. PELTZER

ONE RACE IN DOMINION

BRISBANE, Jan. 3. Dr. Otlo Peltzer, tho famous German athlete, dropped a bombshell into athletic circles on his arrival to-day by announcing that ho could run only in two races in Australia. This was a German regulation, and could not. be broken. He had run two races in Manila, and had four left, one of which he would like to run in New Zealand. The fourth would be in America. Dr. Peltzer said the attitude of his association was that visitors were imposed upon too much, and'told when and where to run, to their detriment.
