"PRETTY MEAN THEFT."
MAN'S SWAG STOLEN.
OFFENDER SENT TO PRISON
"It was a pretty mean theft," commented Chief-Detective Hammond, when a charge of stealing a swag, containing three blankets and clothing, the property of John Graham Snowden, was brought in the Police Court yesterday against Charles Clifford Lee. Accused admitted the offence, which took placo at Rotorua on December 5.
Mr. Hammond said that Snowden was going to work*at the forestry reserve at Rotorua and met accused on the road. They went into a hotel and had a drink, and Lee then came out and stole the other man's swag, selling the clothing to Maoris and the blankets to a roadman.
Agreeing with the chief detective's comment, the magistrate, Mr. F. Iv. Hunt, sentenced Lee to one month's imprisonment.
