EAST COAST RAILWAY.
GISBORNE TO WAIROA. A Napior resident who recently visited Gisborno states that, though much work has been done at Waikokopu in connection with tho construction of the Gis-borne-Wairoa section of (lie East Coast railway, most of it is of a simply preparatory nature preliminary to tho commencement of tho railway work proper. Describing the work, one observer says that the borings have been taken for tho viaduct over tho inner harbour, which will bo negotiated partly by a filling and partly by a bridge. Large stocks of materials .are on hand, but looking from the wharf not much progress has been made on the side cutting round tho bluff. A huge amount of rock materia} will have to be shifted in going round this spot, But when tho trains start to run a fine view of tho Waikokopu bight will be obtainable.
