WISDOM.
To set colours in new materials before washing, grate two medium-sized potatoes as fine as possible, and add half a cupful of vinegar and a quarter of a cupful of salt. Allow this mixture to stand for ten minutes, then add one gallon of rain water. Let the article soak in this mixture for 20 minutes before washing. When putting on a new pair of kid gloves, gentle warmth will help them to stretch and go on with greater ease, so it is always wise to put them on for the first time near a-fire. As a further safeguard against splitting, turn back the wrist and work the fingers in first, and next the thumb, before carefully drawing on the glove completely.
