PERFUMED BUTTERFLIES

These butterflies are found in many parts of the world. The. best known example in Great Britain "is a green-veined white butterfly called the Pieris-napi. It is only the male that is scented, and the marking must be carefully observed to distinguish it from the female. Tho veinings on tho wings are less well marked in the male, and there is only one spot on each of tho upper wings. The scent is given off from a fluid that is secreted by cells that lie on the surface of the wing. These tiny glands are connected with certain of tho scales that cover the butterfly's wings.
