QUIETNESS OF THE MARKET,

Joseph Nathan and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from thu.- London house, Trengrouse and Nathan, Limited :—Butter, 168s. Cheese, white 945, coloured 925. 3oth markets are very quiet. Andrew Clement and Sons, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London oflice, dated November 28:—Butter: Nominal quotation, 166s to 168s. Cheese: Quiet, 92s to 945. Amalgamated Dairies, Limited, yesterday received the following cablegram from their London office:—Butter: There is further weakness in the market. Anchor, 170s; other finest butter is offering down to 1665. More interest is being shown at prices. Danish butter, 182s. Clieese: White 945, coloured 925. The market is quiet.

FRUIT AND PRODUCE PRICES

Canadian Jonathan apples sold freely at the Auckland City Markets yesterday. Stunners brought 6s to lis a case, according to condition. Strawberries have maintained a fairly even value throughout the week, larger quantities being sold yesterday. There was a moderate demand for gooseberries. Californian oranges were slow of sale at the reduced rate of 30s to 38s a case. Australian green plums brought 8s to 9s a case. Local loquats realised 6s to 7s a case Repacked ripe bananas commanded 20s to 22s 6d a case.

The field produce section was well supplied with new potatoes, cabbage and green peas. Large stocks of French and broad beans and cauliflower 'were marketed, while heavy supplies of all lines of root vegetables in season came forward. A keen demand existed for all classes. The market was glutted with lettuce, which sold at the considerably reduced rate of Is 6d to 4s 6d a case. There were no outstanding changes ir> the values for the other lines.

The poultry market was heavily supplied with most lines of birds. There was a keen demand, the prices remaining level with last week's quotations. There was no change in the prices for the six grades of hen and duck eggs, a good demand being maintained for moderate supplies of both classes of eggs. Fair stocks of farmers' butter again met with a good response at the unaltered rate of Is Id to Is 4d per lb. The following are yesterday's prices:--FRUIT. WHEAT MARKET QUIET.

DUNEDIN, Friday,

Business continues to be very quiet in the milling wheat market, with prices unchanged at 5s 9d a bushel, sacks extra, country sidings, for Tuscan, 6s for Hunters, and up to 6s 6d for Velvet. Millers have ample stocks to meet their requirements for some time yet. There is no change "to report in the fowl wheat market. ' The demand remains fairly normal, with gobd whole wheat saleable at 6s a bushel, ex rail, and a f<s\v pence higher ex store.

The oats market continues very quiet and there are no alterations in prices. Ihe quotation for South Island ports is B's fit 3s For spread delivery, April to September, A grade Cartons are quoted at 3s f.o.b., and B's at 3s 4d. A small demand continues for feed oats. There will not be much doing in the market until tho new season's oats are available. Prices to farmers can be stated at round about 3s 2d on trucks, country stations, for A's, and 3s for B's! The chaff market continues firm, with prices unchanged. Southland is now b.eing drawn upon for supplies and there is quite sufficient chaff'to meet the local demand.

The potato market continues to weaken In view of the. inaraasing quantities of new potatoes now reaching the market. Prices for old potatoes range from about £4 to £6, sacks in, ex store, for sound quality. Under grade are practically unsaleable.

EXPORT OF STUD SHEEP.

POSITION IN SOUTH AFRICA. CAPETOWN, Nov. 23. A questionnaire addressed to the principal breeders indicates that no centre is perturbed at the Australian embargo on the exportation of stud sheep. On the contrary, all are agreed that the present stud animals are capable of meeting the demands of future development. Breeders urge the Government to follow Australia's example and obviate helping future competitors such as Russia.
