THE MORNINGS IDE TUNNEL
Sir,—l notice there has been a petition of 1590 residents praying for tram services to Avondale, also that these services would be dependent on whether the Morningside tunnel was cut. The Transport Board is sending a deputation to Wellington. One wonders what the object is, and whether this autocratic body with its " trains at all costs policy, will seek to block the tu> 1 project on the strength of the forego* petition. One recognises that the tr ..... in some ways would be beneficial to Avondale, but are the people aware: that it will take them quite three-quarters of an hour lumbering along in the trams to reach the city ? For the sake of the north generally, some Government will eventually go on with the tunnel. Then, with a quarter of an hour's run to town, and probably cheap fares, which service will be most favoured? Quick Service.
