EFFECTIVE POISON BAIT.
An excellent bait which can be made very easily and is effective, against slaters., locusts, and other pla.nt-eating pests consists of lib. Paris green," 3lb. treacle, and - one., bushel ..bran.. . ..Bbil . the r ,;j£ayris green in one gallon 'of water; pour tlio treacle into the boiling mixture,'and stir well; then take it off the . fire.; l Damp thQ bran with a little, water, add itMlb the mixture, and stir wiill until all the ingredients are thoroughly distributed.' Arsenate of lead, 21b.. may. be used instead of Paris green., This quantity is sufficient for one acre. It should be Jbroadcast thinly in fine weather, arid should rain interfere with its action the application must be,' repeated. For gardens and small (cultivations the proportion of constituents can remain the same while the quantities are reduced. The bait can be placed under cabbage leaves or . pieces of boai*d, where it will remain effective for quite a long time.
