SHEEP FOR RUSSIA.

EXPORTATION PROHIBITED. SENSATION IN AUSTRALIA. (Received November 27, 9.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 27. The Norwegian motor-ship Thalatta was to have left Sydney to-morrow with a consignment of 5000 rams and ewes for Russia. The purchase was made on behalf of the Soviet Government. However, the Federal Ministry caused a sensation to-day by issuing a proclamation prohibiting tho exportation of these particular sheep. Nearly all of them had been taken on board the Thalatta. It is understood that Russia had placed orders for an additional 20,000 sheep. As a result of very strong criticism in the Sydney newspapers thero is a possibility that the Federal Government will legislate to prohibit the export of stud Merinos from Australia. TEN YEARS' BUSINESS. STUD ANIMALS SOLD. (Received November 27, 11.15 p.m.) CANBERRA, Nov. 27. In the Federal House of Representatives to-day tho Minister of Customs announced that since 1919 the stud sheep exported from Australia numbered 22,511, valued at £339,000. South Africa took 11,165 sheep valued at £287,000; New Zealand took 4503 valued at £44,000, and Japan and Russia look the remainder.
