ENGAGEMENT TO NEGRESS.
FRIEND OF PRISON DAYS. (Received November 27, 10.25 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 27. Oscar Slater, who was released in November, 1927, after having served 18 years in prison in Scotland, on conviction for the murder of Miss Gilchrist in Glasgow, the verdict having been upset by tho Scottish Court of Criminal Appeal, has informed the Glasgow correspondent of the Daily Mail that ho will marry a ncgress in April.
"My fiancee," he said," was born in Basutoland, where her parents were wealthy planters. I first met her in Paris 20 years ago. She was then 20, and had just finished her education. ,Wo corresponded throughout my long years in Peterhead Prison, where she once came to see me.
" Her faith in me was a tremendous comfort. Wo met again in Glasgow when I w.as released, and became engaged. After our marriage we are going to my wife's home to take up planting."
