WHANGAREI SHOW.

FINE DISPLAY OF STOCK.

EXCELLENT CATTLE AND SHEEP.

THE PRINCIPAL PRIZE-WINNERS,

[BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] AVHANGAREI, Wednesday.

Tho 53rd annual spring show of tho Whangarei Agricultural and Pastoral Society was opened at Kensington Park this morning. Unfortunately a heavy northerly wind, accompanied by heavy ruin, prevailed. The entries in the cattlo and sheep sections are . outstanding in point of numbers. Jn the dairy cattle classes the Jersey breed holds pride of place, and some very fine animals are entered. There is also good representations of the Friesian and Ayrshire breeds. The entries of fat and store cattlo are highly satisfactory, and some good quality animals are to bo scon.

Tlio sheep pens are fully occupied, and an all-round increase in this section is recorded. Soutlidowns and Romncy Marsh arc outstanding. Pigs arc not as numerous as previously, and competition is restricted. The standard of animals shown, however, is well up to that of previous years. All available trade exhibit space lias been taken up, and there are somo very good displays in this section. Owing to the inability of Mr. A. D. Bell, of Clevedon, to judge tho milking Shorthorns, the services of Mr. McLcod, of Hclcnsville, were secured. If tho weather improves a large attendance is expected to-morrow, People's Day.
