RETURN TO NEW ZEALAND.

SUCCESSFUL STUDY IN ROME

The Rev. Francis H. Terry has returned to Auckland after four years' study in Rome, where he had a brilliant career. He has not yet been appointed to any charge, but it is understood he will be attached to St. Patrick's Cathedral and will work in the diocese-

Father Terry is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Terry, of St.. Mary's Road, Ponsonby, and was educated in Auckland, attending the Vermont Street school and Sacred Heart College, where he passed the matriculation examination. He then spent three years at Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, and went to Rome in 1925. He studied for four years at the Lateran Seminary, where lie was a member of the Irish College. After obtaining the licentiate in theology Father Terry was ordained in tho Basilica of St. _ John Lateran, Rome, by the Cardinal Vicar in November, 1928. He then studied for his doctorate, but when the examination approached his health broke down and ho w;as not permitted to sit. This was most unfortunate, as during the year he had obtained a number of the highest awards when reading the course. After leaving Rome Father Terry visited all the more important centres in Europe and Great Britain beforo returning to New Zealand.
