GREAT DISPLAY OF BLOOMS.
PRINCIPAL PRIZE-WINNERS.

The annual flower show under the auspices of the Whakatane Beautifying and Horticultural Society was hold in the Winter Show Buildings -£>n Saturday. There was a record attendance, and the show was easily the - best yet held here. Much oi the success was due to the new location, which afforded ample space to exhibit everything to the best advantage. The show was officially opened by the president, Dr. J. C. Wadmore.
There was a splendid display of roses, tho chief prize-winners being B. F. Smith and C. G. Caisley. The former retained the society's rose bowl for most points gained, while Mr. Caisley staged the champion rose bloom, a Frau Carl Druschki.
A gorgeous showing of miscellaneous cut flowers brightened the show room, and there were also good displays of homo cookery and vegetables. The principal prize-winners were: —Pansy section, Mescalines 11. Salmon, G. S. Bullen and Pattie; carnations, G. Angel; sweot peas, Mesdames Pattie, Murphy and Orr; gladioli, Mesdames Pattie and E. ThompsonThe decorative section was exceptionally good, there being 24 tables displayed and four mantelpieces. The principal winners for the table decorations were Mesdames 11. J. S. Johnson, G. A. Lelievro and Miss Avic Prideaux, and for tho mantelpieces Mrs. 11. J. S. Johnson. Moral courts exhibited by ladies of Whakatane and Rangitaiki respectively formed striking features. The prize was awarded to the Rangitaiki ladies.
