CHRISTIAN SCIENCE.
EXPLANATION OF PRINCIPLES
A lecture on Christian Science, entitled " Christian Science, the Way to Life, Peace and Joy," was given at the Town Hall yesterday afternoon by tho Hon. W. K. Brown, C.5.8., of Los Angeles, California.
Tho lecturer said that if if, were possible to make <1 composite word picture of those qualities most desired by mankind, this picture would contain tho majestic words, life, peace and joy. He proceeded to explain tho meaning attached to each of these terms. Jt had been generally conceded that if the teachings of .Jesus Christ were practicable, the affairs of earth would be very much improved. Whenever this question arose the materialists and so-called hardheaded, common-sense individuals dismissed it with the statement that, while these teachings wcro beautiful and idealistic, they wero entirely impracticable, and that the world must look to oilier sources for tho remedy for world evils. It was true that when considered from a material standpoint the teachings of tho Master regarding tho golden rule and tho brotherhood of man did seem impossible of practical application, but when viewed through tho lens of Christian Seienco their intense and ,wholly practical nature was at onco revealed. Not only this, but also ono was at onco convinced that there was no other solution of tho world's problems. A spiritual understanding of tho Bible was a very practical guide and mentor in our everyday affairs, bringing us life, peace and joy. All tho activities of life wore mental, and since this was so it followed that, as our own lives wcro attuned to the Divine mind, all our actions became more and more harmonious and intelligent, and this of course meant tho progressive elimination of ignorance, misiudgmont and mistakes. 'J'liis relationship not only brought peace of mind, with its divine calm, but also supplied tho intelligence and judgmont which made all one's acts productive of sficcess, and blessed all who might ho connected with ono under this divine guidance.' The consideration of life, peace and joy led naturally to that universal goal, liberty. Tho pages of history wero laden with glorious records of national and individual efforts to be free; yet, liko all other great and desirable goals, it could be found oidy in a spiritual understanding of God. The. lecturer said that Mrs. Eddy did no', discover or found a new religion, nor croalo a new Bible. What she did accomplish, and this accomplishment, was the greatest of all events sinco tho time of Jesus, was to discern spiritually the true import of llis teaching, which reestablished in this ago practical Christianity, which all might understand and prove in tho healing of sickness arid sin. Treatment in Christian Science was synonymous with healing through prayer, as practised by .Tosus and llis disciples. In emphasising this method of healing as (ho only correct method, Christian Science was in strict accordance with the Bible arid the commands of the Master.,
