A total of £24,444 was distributed by the Morrinsville JDairy Company for butter-fat supplied during October. The payment was on the basis of Is s£d per lb. Last October the rate was Is 4£d, the disbursement being £19,795.

NEW YORK MARKETS.

STOCK EXCHANGE HOLIDAYS. (lieceived November 23, 6.6 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 22. . The governors of the Stock Exchange have decided to close the exchange on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, and also on the Friday and Saturday following. But the Exchange will return to the regular five-hours sessions for the first three .days of the business week. A message from Chicago says that the rediscount rate has been reduced to 4£ per cent.

The North Auckland Box Company, which lias cub out all its existing timber reserves, has purchased threa now areas of bush, representing 3,500,000 feet of timber. This will keep the mills going for some years. The bush is somo distance from Parakao, Whangarei County. The company considers installing up-to-date machinery to enable it to compete with Swodish butter boxes.
