IMPROVISED BOMB FOUND.
GELIGNITE PACKED IN TIN.
DISCOVERY IN THE BUSH.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] "WAIHI, Friday.
An improvised bomb, which is believed to have been made by someone with a good khowledge of explosives and their power, was found on the slopes of Martha Hill yesterday by Mr. Richard Hunt, who was engaged in burning off scrub in connection with beautifying work. The bomb was only a few feet away from the flames, and was cn an area over which Mr. Hunt intended to burn. The machine consisted of a cocoa tin in which was >i plug pf gelignite packed round with large nails. An 18in. fuse with a detonator was attached.
No reason why the bomb should have been placed there can be given, but as the tin was not even rusted, it must have been deposited not long before it was discovered.
