WESTERN SPRINGS STADIUM

\ TRACK OPEN FOR ALL.

OPENING' IN FORTNIGHT. The Western Springs Dirt Track Stadium will bo opened within a fortnight, and somo thrilling racing is expected on the first night. The Auckland riders, Garnison, Mattson, and Allen, who havo been visiting tho Christchurch and Wellington tracks, have proved themsolves reliable and spectacular exponents on tho cinders. In addition, Kilminstcr (Wellington), will also competo, the latter rider last week winning tho Kilbirnie Gold Helmet and establishing a track record in Wellington. Tho Australians, Datson and Stipcivkh, aro also arriving in the city, while an added attraction will bo tho appearance of New Zealand's idol, Percy Coleman. Tho Western Springs Stadium has been thrown open for practice for all riders, but only those duly registered by the New Zealand AutoCycle; Union will bo permitted to race. Every endeavour is being made to give the public a really first-class exhibition and, the track being ono of tho finest cinder circuits in Australia and New Zealand, competitors should not suffer tho trouble that is usually experienced on smaller tracks. Tho minimum riding track permitted by the Auto Cycle Union is 440 yards in circuit; with a width of 30ft.. on tho straight and 40ft. on the bends. Tracks which do not comply with these specifications are regarded as unsafe and, being unregistered, AutoCycle Union riders aro not permitted to compete on them. The visiting southern and Australian riders will appear at t lie Western Springs Stadium only. ROYAL ENFIELD SUCCESSES. At recent races riders of Royal Enfield machines have met with outstanding success. It has not been a case ol one particular rider on an individual machine as, both at Whangarei and Muriwai, a number of different competitors ro'dc with distinction.

THE SPORTS CLUB. Members of tho Sports Motor-Cycle Club will assemble at the Burns Statue at 10 a.m. to-morrow preparatory to leaving for a pillion-riding outirig. Tho fixture has been arranged to help plnco the finances of the club on a sound basis and clear the debt under ■which the club is labouring. Every member is urged to bo present. BEACH RACES. A series of beach races will be held next week-end on the Orewa Beach. Competitors will leave the city by the 8.30 ' a.m. fcrrv, and will join the North Shore Club in a day's outing, to bo held under the auspices the latter club. DOMINION RIDER KILLED. : Motor-cvcling enthusiasts throughout ! New Zealand have learned with regret of tho death of Mr. Jack Arnott., who was killed as the result of a crash at tho Davis Park Speedway, Brisbane, last Monday. Cable advice states that Sir. Arnott was thrown clear when he crashed, but. that one of three riders who were following close behind him crashed into his prostrato form. At the time of his death, Mr. Arnott held the New Zealand light-weight championship, which he won at Christchurch last year.. . He was considered one of the best riders in the Dominion, and was well known for tho performances he registered on a machine of his own manufacture, known as the Bitza. Mr. Arnott was due back from Australia this month, and he had decided to tako part in the forthcoming motor-car and cycle races at tho Mangere Speedway on December 7.

ASTOUNDING SPEEDS. A German rider claims <o have established new world's records on a B.M.W. motor-cycle on the Ingolstaedt track near Munich. The speeds claimed are:— . Kilometre Flying. Start .. 334.25 m.p.h. Mile Plying Start .. .. 136.S m.D.h. If the records are confirmed by the F.1.C.M., the controlling body, they will of course, give the B.M.W. machine the honour of being the fastest two-wheeler in the world. The B.M.W. is a fiat twinengined machine and great trouble has been taken with the stream-lining. NOTES. A.J.S. motor-cycle secured first, second, and fourth places in the 350 c.c. class in the Ulster Grand Prix. In the international races held at Simmering, Austria, Douglas riders secured first places in the 750 c.c. and 500 c.c. classes. Little refinements to simplify common adjustments, or to make them more or less unnecessary, are a marked feature of 1930 models. Official returns show lhafc 10,913 motorcycles, valued at £492,161, were exported from the United States during the six months ended last June, as against 10,438 and £484,284 respectively in the corresponding half of 1928.
