At the final meeting for the year of the •Devon port branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union Mrs. Williams presided over a good attendance of members. The election of officers for the ensuing year took place, and greetings from Scotland were given by Miss Young. .The union will reopen in February.

The Epsom branch of the League of Mothers, over which Mrs. T. Hi Macky presided, held its final meeting for the year in the Baptist Church Hall, Inverness Avenue. An address on "Studies in Adaptation" was given by Professor Mperrin-Johnson, touching on many interesting subjects. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. T. H. Hill.

Simone Thion de la Chaume, an ex-golf champion of France and of Britain. Mile. Thion de la Chaume is the best lady golfer France Tias ever produced. She first came into prominence when, as a girl of 16, she won the girls' championship at Stoke Pogt.s. Besides feeing a first-class golfer, she plays squash, swims and is a fine iibrsewoman.

The St. Paul's Ladies' Guild held •their annual sale of work in the Masonic ■Hall, lluntly, on Wednesday." The Rev. Bush-King officiated at the opening. The stalls consisted of plain work by ' the Ladies' Guild; fancywork and silver trail by the Girls' Guild; sweets, etc., cake and tea rooms and produce. The fishpond was a popular rendezvous. The programme at the evening entertainment was contributed by Mrs. Fraser, witli solo and recitation; dances by the Misses Coweii and Miss Harmsworth; "Pickles," by the boys' choir. Mr.. J. Malcolm had installed and also conducted an electric gramophone programme. A game of skittles was conducted by the men's committee.

-At a meeting of the women's branch of the Auckland Labour Party the Rev. Wilna Constable gave an address, her subject being "Youth and Its Needs." The speaker outlined the mental questionings of present-day youth and its .various methods of satisfying inquiries. She spoke also of her work among the young people of her church at Warwick, in England, and of the impressions she had' received in this country. A brief discussion followed and the speaker ■was thanked by the president, Mrs. L. 'Harrison, for her address. A report was made concerning the recent children's fancy-dress ball, which, it was stated, vras very successful. It was decided to hold a jumblo sale very shortly.

A surprise party, organised by members of the Highland Tennis Club, was held ab lt tho residence of Mr. and Mrs. Buckley, Highland Road, Mount Albert. •A very enjoyable time was spent with <landng, games and music. Mr. and Mrs. Buckle}', who arc leaving Auckland .to take up their residence in Kaitaia, ,vill be much missed by tho club, and as a token of appreciation were asked to accept a case of fish-knives, forks and servers, , with the best wishes of the club. Those present wereMesdames Eiven, Wilson, McKenzie, Hannekin, Bartlett,' Holland Reynolds, Misses Paul, Derrick, Boswell, Sawkins, Edwards, Tyndall and Messrs. Ewen, Wilson, McKenzie, Hanneken, Holland, Itowell, Thornes and Edwards.

Mrs. B. Burk entertained a number of friends at her home, Norana Avenue, Remuera, at a gift afternoon yesterday. Tho gifts will go to one of the stalls at the Missions to Seamen Garden Fete, to be held at the residence of Mrs. J. W. Tattersfield, Mount Albert, at an early 'date. Musical and elocutionary items were rendered by Miss R. Burk and Miss Lorna Andrews, which were greatly appreciated. Air. Arthur O'Halloran acted as accompanist.
