WOMEN IN TURKEY.
QUESTION OF POLICE WORK,
PROGRESS OF FEMINISM.
The expediency of inviting the Chief of the London Women Police to Constantinople has been under consideration by tho Union of Turkish Ladies. The question of the participation of the Turkish women in the police force has recently given rise to much controversy in feminist circles.
Among tho members of the Union of Turkish Ladies it is hold that the innovation will help to eliminate _ dedauchery. Other ladies, especially teachers, dislike the idea of the Turkish women being in contact with the scum of tho people, and urge that she shall first learn how to perform her duties as housewife.
Tho dispute calls attention to the progress of feminism in Turkey. Of all reforms brought about in that country in tho course of tho past few years, the improvement in tho status of women must undoubtedly bo considered the most promising. Its strongest supporters aro the present leading statesmen.
