PRESENTATION.
REV. CHARLES CHANDLER.
A presentation to the Rev. Charles Chandler, who will shortly relinquish his post as assistant-city missioner, was made by tho Howard League of Penal Reform at the Fabian Club last evening, the president, Mr. N. M. Richmond, presiding. Mr. William Alexander and Mr. Maurice Gregory, members of the Society of Friends, addressed the gathering of about 60, Mr. W. J. Jordan, and Mr. li. G. R. Mason, M.P.'s, being present. Mr. Jordan paid a tribute to the prison work done by Mr. Chandler and mentioned that ho had been visited by discharged men in Wellington who had appreciated tho help given to them bv Mr. Chandler. He hoped that at some future date it would bo possible to secure the services of Mr. Chandler for special social work under the Government. Dr. Mildred Staley, Dr. Dukes and Mr. J. J. Sullivan wcro also present, Mrs. Sullivan singing two songs. Tho presentation was made by Mr. E. C. Cutton, S.M., and consisted of a volume of tho great essays of all nations, with an inscription by Auckland social workers and signed by Mr. Richmond and Mr. Cutten.
Mr. Chandler will leave for Sydney in December to found n social crusade mission, with tho idea of linking up the industrial movement with the Church.
