SINKING OF A PUNT.

WEIGHT OF HEAVY LORRY. RESCUE OF THREE PERSONS. A heavily-laden motor-lorry caused a punt to sink at Boyd's Bay, Tweed Heads, New South Wales, recently. The driver and two childron, who were riding on tho lorry, were immersed, but were quickly rescued. Tho lorry was driven by Mr. Ebbage, who conducts a carrying servico. The vehicle, which carries about two and ahalf tons was loaded with about 120 bags of casein and 30 bags of pick handles, which brought tho weight to about seven tons. At Boyd's Bay there are two punts joined together, and as tho lorry was driven on to tho first tho weight caused it to sink to a depth of a few feet. Under instructions from tho forryman tho driver attempted to back the lorry off, but in the process the lorry struck the railings at (ho side, and becamo wedged. Mr. Ebbage then drove on to the second punt, with the object of saving the first one from completely sinking, but the back wheels skidded sideways and tho renrl of the lorry struck the gear room.
