On charges of false protonces in connection with tho operations of two companies, David Neilson Johnston, of Dun* edin, was to-day committed to the Supremo Court for trial. In giving his reserved decision, Mr. W. It. Woodward, S.M., remarked: "Accused mado representations concerning tlio operations of tho two wliicti ho was secretary, Quarterly Dividends, Limited, and National House Purchase, Limited, and tlio processes by which dividends were produced. Tho false protcnce consists in tho representation that theso operations are capable of continuing in future for any considerable period to produce substantial benefits to the contributors which accused promised." Accused, who pleaded not guilty, wa3 granted bail.

CHURCH APPOINTMENT. ARCHDEACON OF WAIKATO. REVEREND G. GORDON BELL. [BY TELEOHAPH. —OW.V COtmESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON, Tuesday. The appointment is announced of the Rev. G. Gordon Bell, vicar of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Auckland, as vicar of St., Andrew's Church, Cambridge, and Archdeacon of Waikato.

Mr. Bell was educated at St. Catherine's College, Cambridge, where ho took his M.A. degree. He was ordained in 1914 by tho Bishop of Lichfield to the parish of Cliristchurch, Stafford, from which ho came to Auckland at the invitation of Archbishop Averill when ho was in England for tho Lambeth Coufererico in 1920. Besides being president of tho Auckland Clergy Association. Sir. Bell is a member of the Molanesian Mission Finance Board, the Orphans' Home Board, tho Clergy Pensions Board, a member of the committee of the Order of tho Good Sliephord. the Diocesan Missionary Committee, tho Evangelistic Council, tlio Sunday Schools Board, a member of the executive of the Council of Christian Congregations, and a past president of the New Zealand Anglican Bible Class Union.
