ALTERNATIVE PROPOSALS.
COUNCILS FAVOUR NO. 1 SCHEME
ALLOCATION OF THE COST.
A mooting of delegates of tho Otahuhu Borough Council and the Manukau County Council to consider tho schemes of-tho Main Highways Board for rebuilding and widening tho Tamaki River Bridge was held at Otahuhu yesterday. It was docided that No. 1 scheme should bo approved by the two bodies concerned, and a resolution to that effect will bo forwarded to tho Main Highways Board. Mr. 11. T. Clements, Mayor of Otahuhu, proposed and Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of tho Manukau County Council, seconded, that tho meeting approvo tho No. 1 scheme plan. Tho meeting was of opinion that tho question of a wider carriageway than that suggested by the board should be> further considered beforo tho scheme was fully approved. The question of tho proportion of costs to be charged to the local bodies concerned, as suggested by the Highways Board, was discussed. Delegates said that at present they were not prepared to accept any set proportion of the cost, and further desired to know to what extent other local bodies would be asked to contribute. The cost of the scheme is £9377.
