THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

HEAVY TRADING RECORDED*

The volume of investment business gathered impetus yesterday, and tlio turnover oh the Auckland Exchange was tho heaviest that has been recorded, for many weeks. All sections of tho market were active, and the general tono was definitely healthier.

In local body debentures Auckland City, 1963, 5i per cent., wero dono at £101 5s, and Auckland Hospital Board, 1948, 5J, per cent., at £100 15s. Activity was greatest in the banking section. A strong inquiry for Commercials of Australia at firmer levels mot with a ready response. At the carly call ten parcels changed hands at 27s 9d, 9d better than the last local sale and equal to Monday's sales in the South. Offers were renewed at tho same figure, sellers 27s lOd, but at mid-day buyers eased to 27s 6d and sellers conceded one penny without business resulting. Two more sales at 27s 9d took place at tho final call, and the market closed with buyers offering 27s 7d, sellers 27s 9d. Unions of Australia were also very active and had sale at £14 12s, Melbourne register, which is equal to the last Auckland transaction, and later at £14 10s 9d. and £14 10s. Nationals of Australasia were dono at £18 10s, £1 2s 6d cheaper than a month In insurance the demand was firmer. Nationals were done a fraction easier at 16s 4d, and New Zealands made a currentprice sale at 46s 3d. South British sold at late levels at the first call, and in the afternoon wero done 3d weaker at 65s 3d. In loan and agency Dalgetys were sought 7s 6d firmer at £14 5f>, and Golds-brpugh-Morts made headway -with a sale 4d dearer at 44s 3d. , In breweries the demand was steady, and Staples changed hands 6d firmer at 53s 6d. Stronger tendencies predominated in the miscellaneous group, although changes were fewer. Gear Meats, Hayward s Pictures, Kempthorne - Prossers and Farmers' Fertilisers were done unchanged.
