LORD MAYOR OF LONDON.

ELECTION OF MASTER PRINTER The new Lord Mayor of London, .Sir William Alfred Waterlow, will be installed in the office on Saturday. He was elected unopposed on September 28, and it was then stated that.it has probably never before happened that a man should fill the office of Sheriff in one year and Lord Mayor in the year following. Sir William Waterlow was formerly solo managing director of the firm of Waterlow Brothers and Layton, printers and stationers, which wus originally established by members of tho family constituting the firm of Waterlow and Sons. In 1920,' the two firms were amalgamated, and from then until November of last year, Sir j William was a director and for a time chairman of the amalgamated firm. * £ Tho progenitor of the business was James Waterlow, who was at one time a common council man of London. His fourth son, Sydney, was Lord Mayor of London in 1872-3, and was created a baronet- in 1873. The new Lord .Mayor is a grandson of James Waterlow's eldest son. A gathering of the family was held in London on Christmas Day during Sir Svdnew .Waterlow's Mayoralty, no fewfeC than 99 persons being present at dinner. Among.them was Mr. H. S._ W. King, of Auckland, then a boy, who is a cousin of tho Lord Mayor-designate. As he has occupied various offices, chiefly in connection with education, for 15 years,' he is carrying on the family tradition of puo- ■ lie services.
