The tug Kahanui was to-day afforded another opportunity of demonstrating her value as a salvage vessel. The coastal vessel Himitangi, bound for Foxton, put, out over the bar at n00n..,/ Wl;i®:a one and a-half miles out tii. sea she developed trouble, which rondei fid her temporarily incapable of making lieadwny. At 1.15 p.m. ei call for assistance was sent to the Wanganui pilot stationWithin an hour l:he Kahanui, which' had been lying at t!he \irharf with engines cold and no sign of i. crew , had crossed the bar. The weather favoured the undertaking and the Hi mitangj vraw towed back and berthed at :lour o'clock.
The Himitangi is a small lioiub trading between Wanganui, Foxto;:i and Wellington. She was previously named the Coolebar, and wits purchased by Messrs. Holm and Company from an Australian firm. She arrive d at. Wanganui last June and is commanded by Captain Nelson. The ves iel's trouble to-day was caused by the main steam pipe bursting and robbing her cf her power.
