SLAUGHTERMEN RESUME
A CONFERENCE FOLLOWS.
OFFER MADE TO !HE MEN.
CONSIDERATION THIS MORNING
Work was resumed yesterday afternoon aft the city abattoir and at the works of R. and W. Hellaby, Limited, life Westfield, by the 100 slaughtermen who went on strike on Wednesday. ..The City Council arranged a confenmco immediately to discuss the points raised toy the men in connection with the disputed award conditions regarding pig slaughtering. Finality was noft reached on all matters but the workers' representatives arranged to report the deliberations of the conference to the slaughtermen at 7.3(1 o'clock this morning. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, stated last evening that, an offer had' been made to th<9 slaughtermen and that their attitude should bo known to day. Early yesterday morning Mr. Hally wont to Westfield and found the fitriken gathering for a meeting. He advised them to accept the Mayor's suggestion and return to work in order that their grievances might be properly heard* The slaughtermen agreed unanimously to resume work at. 2 p.m., A conference was called at the Town Hall at 2 30 p.m. and by this time advice was received that all the men were at work. The clleliberations continued until. 7 p.m. when the representatives of tho men left with the proposition which had been formulated for submission to the men to day.
