PRAYERS AT BREWERY.

OTAHUHU CONTROVERSY.

WOMEN'S DEMONSTRATION.

PROCESSION FROM CHURCH.

DIVINE INTERVENTION SOUGHT.

. The members of the Women's Christian Temperance Union have engaged in an active crusade against the establishment a brewery on the Great South Road near Otahuhu. They contend that this brewery will constitute a grave danger to the lives and safety of all persons using •the main highway to the Waikato. The many branches of the union have forwarded strong protests to the Government each of which has been acknowledged with the reply that "your representations will bo duly considered." They havq therefore decided to adopt other methods to attain their objective.

On Tuesday next the members will assemble at Otahuhu and, after a short prayer meeting in the Otahuhu Baptist Church, about 11 o'clock they will form a procession and march on to the brewery. An open air prayer meeting will be held and Divine intervention will be sought to prevent the operation of the brewery. It is claimed that this brewery has been erected on the main highway in order to secure the custom of passing motorists, and as the law requires that a brewery shall sell not less than two gallons of beer to any person, it is contended that this will lead to excessive drinking, with tragic results.

The Women's Christian Temperance Union is asking all Christian women to join them in a great women's crusade against what they declare is a menace to the welfare of the community.
