Varnish should never he applied to nails that have the slightest tendency tov.'ords brittieness. I'or them a [paste polish is infinitely better, when too pale a deep red paste can be used, which will give a slight tinge to them, and they should bo smeared with a littlo vaseline, mixed with an equal quantity of olive oil, every night and morning. Brittlo nails are generally due to gout in tho system, and all acid-producing fbods should be avoided.
