OBITUARY.

MR. L. H. HOLLOWAY. An old resident of Auckland, Mr. Luke Hallam Hollowav, aged 83, died at his residence at Epsom, on Thursday. Mr. Hollowav was born in Nottingham, England, being tho youngest son of the late Mr. John Holloway. He arrived in New Zealand in 1865, and kept a store near the Whau Creek. For several years he was on the Thames and Coromandel goldfields. He entered the Land Tax Department and was later transferred to the Property Tax Department. Entering the Deeds Office, he attained the position of dsp-jty-regir.iiar before retiring on super- ■ animation some years ago. Mrs. Holloway ! died about three years ago. There is a ' family of two sons, Messrs. J. A. and H. : E. Holloway, of Auckland, and three daughters, Mrs. J. McDougall, of Epsom, Mrs. L. Totman, of Te Kuiti, and Miss Holloway, of Epsom. MRS. M. A. BENNET. The death has occurred at Howick of Mrs. Mary Annie Bennet, aged 70, a daughter of the late Mr. W. H. Lavcock, who arrived with his wife and family in New Zealand with the early Albertland settlers. Mr. Lavcock settled at Tairua, where he carried on a hotel business, also employing about 500 men in gumdigspng operations. Mrs. Bennet was married in 1885 to Mr. A. E. Bennet, who was engaged in the timber industry in the district. For the past 30 years, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have resided in Howick and for many years they owne'd the Howick Marine Hotel. Mrs. Bennet is survived by her husband, one son, Mr. L. Bennet,, of Green Lane, and two daughters, Mrs. W. Aitkins, of Frankton Junction, and Mrs. H. Cucksey, of ThamesMR. G. H. AUCKRAM. Mr. George Henry Auckram, aged 85, one of the oldest members of Court Pride of Onehunga, No. 5261, A.0.F., died at Onehunga on Thursday. He had been associated with the institution for about half a century. As a child of five Mr. Auckram arrived at Auckland with his parents in the ship Barrenporo in 1849. He was engaged in the timber industry ali his life, except for a few years in the alluvial goldfields in West land. He was at Huia, near the Manukau Heads, at the height of the timber activity in that district, but eventually he was engaged in the Kauri Timber Company's mill on the Onehunga foreshoro, where he had the misfortune to lose his left hand in an accident. His wife predeceased him and he leaves a family of six, four sons and two daughters, besides 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. MR G. W. MINTER. The death has occurred in Wellington of Mr. George William Minter, aged 77, who was well-known in business circles in Auckland. Mr. Minter was born in New South Wales and camo to Now Zealand as a lad. joining his father on a station in Otago. Tie joined the Bank of New Zealand and became a branch manager. Later ho engaged in private business. He was interested in the search for gold in Otago and Terawhiti. lie is survived by Mrs. Minter and two daughters. MR. VERNON ROBERTS..

The denth of Mr. Vornon Roberts, aged 83, occurred at Onehunga on Thursday. Born in London, Mr. Roberts arrived at .Auckland with his brother in the ship "Ulcoats in 1865 and soon joined in the gold rush to Thames, where he kept a store for some years. Ho entered the Post and Telegraph service and his last position before retirement was that of postmaster at Greyinouth. Keenly interested in the Maoris, Mr, Roberts acted as an interpreter while at Thames and during his long association with them he gathered an interesting collection of curios, including gifts from the Maori king Tawhiao. As a Freemason Mr. Roberts was a momber of Lodge Alexandra, No. 118, E.G. Ho is survived by his wife and a family of six, two daughters and four sons, ono being Mr. C. V. Roberts, clerk of the Court at Onehunga and Otahuhu.
