WIDENING DOMINION ROAD.

BOROUGH COUNCIL'S WORK. TRAM EXCAVATION MATERIAL. A resolution that no further expenditure should bo incurred in widening Dominion Road pending a complete report by the engineer on tho work, was moved by Mr. W. 11. Naglo at a meeting of tho Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. Mr. Nagle said that it was high time tho council considered what scbemo it was to proceed with, what would bo the cost, and how the money was to be found. Tho council was going ahead with a scheme of which it had no details. .'Tho Mayor, Mr. E. 11. Potter, said that tho scbemo was a big one. Tho council had taken advantage of some vacant areas, and had had a considerable area transferred. It was making use of the material from tho tramway excavations for filling, which was expected to be completed in a month or six weeks, costing the council nothing. Sorno very expensive buildings bad already been erected, set back to the permanent level. The council must lortk to the future. It must keep paco with the Transport Board in tho work, and it would lie impossible to give effect to tho resolution. Practically no expenditure was being incurred. Mr. G. L. Taylor said that it was tho policy of' the council to do as much widening as possible, with as little expense as possible. Mr. Nagle/contended that no scbemo or plans had been laid before the council. " You arc interfering with the work of the council and wo cannot allow that," said tho Mayor. The motion was lost.
